The Dog Days Feast is when the dogs of the pack work together for the largest and most important hunt of the year. It is a tradition that is done every year. This is the also a common time when particularly successful dogs are promoted from Subordinates into Elite Hunters so that they can lead the hunt next year. The hunt is a series of threads that dogs can participate in. This is also a time when Hlengiwe is most likely to get in trouble with other packs because they do have a habit of herding the animals over other pack territories or stealing the prey animals from the other packs.
The Event
The Alpha begins a pack meeting to announce the start of the event. The scouts and sometimes some of the pack find some prey animals and chase them into the Cotton Plains. An elite hunter or another high ranking dog (if there are no elite hunters) usually comes along to give them direction and make sure that the prey are good. The rest of the pack are waiting in the Plains, where they will then proceed to kill as many animals in the pasture as possible. It is faster to work as a team than on your own. After the animals are dead, the entire pack engorges until their stomachs are taut and round and they can barely move. Loners and other dogs are invited to take some food after the killings and the feast since the pack is probably too full to do anything anyways.
Basically, the threads will go as follows:
• Pack meeting - Latch & Ashlynn call a pack meeting and announce the start of the celebration
• The Gathering - Scouts and some hunters are sent to locate and herd prey back into the lands
• The Feast - The rest of the pack awaits the prey to come and kills them. They also eat.
• Extraneous Threads - Outside pack dogs can make threads where they also pick at the Dog Days Feast.
Sign-Ups
In order to organize this the best, we'll do the important plot stuff before the entire celebration (will come around next Friday) For the pack meeting, all dogs are assumed to be present, even if they have not posted.
