Rayalen walked slowly through the forest. It was her day off, and what was she doing? She was going to the one place she hated the most in the pack lands. White Waterfall. The falls had taken her friend from her several years ago, and she still hasn't forgotten. She still blames herself, thinking that if she had used her brain she could have prevented the whole thing. But she didn't, so Kable had been taken from her too soon. She was on her way to the falls to remember her friend. She did this fairly regularly.
Her large paws padded down the dirt path, leaving massive paw prints in her wake, a clear trail to follow if anyone was looking for her. That was her rule number 5. Never be unreachable. She always made sure people could find her, be it a trail she left, or letting someone know where she was. Today she had done both. It was common knowledge in the pack that she came here almost weekly, but of course no one knew why, not unless they had been around four years ago.
As she walked she remembered that day, everything that had happened. She remembered Kable falling to his death. He hadn't fallen far, since the falls aren't very high, but he had hit his head in such away that had killed him instantly. Maybe he had broken his neck, she didn't know. Whatever had caused it, he had died. Raya never forgave herself.
Suddenly something fell from the trees above her, landing on her shoulder. She would have been startled if this wasn't a common occurence, this is what she got for having a squirrel as her soul. She forced a smile, and angled her head so she could see him as she walked. "And what, pray tell, are you up to?" The black squirrel giggled, and scrambled up to sit on her head, another common occurence. "I've been listening to jokes. Care to hear one?"

Raya sighed, but couldn't help but smile. Scrap had come to her in her darkest hour. She had never told anyone this, but she had contemplated throwing herself off the falls to join Kable in the after life. Of course, she would have had to do it just right to actually kill herself...but those were just details. Scrap had shown up and made her feel more like herself again. She looked forward as she walked, and nodded. Scrap grinned big, and flicked his tail."Alright, alright. I've got to pick the best one...OH! OK, here we go. I have a riddle for you. Dogs that want it, don't need it. Dogs that need it, don't want it. And Dogs that have it, don't know that they have it...feel free to ask any yes or no question."
She rolled her eyes. This was a bogus riddle. She wasn't in the mood for riddles. She thought about it for a few minutes, not coming up with anything. So instead of asking him a question to narrow it down, she just sighed. "I give up Scrap. What is it?" The squirrel began giggling almost to the point of falling off of her head, she had to stop to make sure he didn't. Squirrels. They were so....squirrely. When he got control of himself he sat up and flicked his tail once more. "A tomb! Isn't that funny??"
Her eyes narrowed and in one fast movement she threw her head down, throwing her soul into the dirt. She growled at the squirrel who was now almost trembling, even though he knew she'd never hurt him. "NO, Scrap, it is not funny. Do you know where we are going? And why? You ought to." She continued glaring at him, and he proceeded to get off of his back and sit up, drumming his little fingers together nervously. Then his eyes went wide as it all went together in his head, and he clasped his little hands together."Oh! Jeez I forgot! Raya I'm sorry! Don't be angry with me! I was just trying to make you laugh and I didn't think about where we were going! I'm so-"
Rayalen barked at him, promptly shutting him up. Then she sighed. "Scrap, what's rule number One?" The squirrel again thought for a moment, then sighed. "Right....won't happen again! I promise. Does that mean you aren't mad at me?" The squirrels beady eyes looked up at her and she couldn't help but smile. Then she nodded. "Yes, that means I'm not mad at you. Come on now."
The squirrel giggled happily and flicked his tail, jumping easily onto her back and again moving up to her head, and sitting there comfortably. He continued to chatter about something. She tuned him out. She'd grown used to doing that. It was a comfort really. It was nice to know that there was someone out there that cared about her. Even if the squirrel did sometimes get on her nerves, she knew she'd be lost with out him.
A few minutes later she heard the sounds of water crashing down, and a few more minutes later she was standing on a rock near the falls. Not close enough that it was wet, at all. Not even close enough to get sprayed by the mist that bounced off the rocks. But close enough to see the water, and feel the coolness of it. Scrap scrambled down her back and hopped onto a nearby tree, no doubt to find something interesting to do. She mean while, sat down on the rock, looking out over the falls. Her mind far away as she watched the water fall down.
