[style=background-color: #CDAF95; width: 425px; border-radius: 25px; margin: 10px 5px 10px 10px;][style=font:48px Times; color: #855E42; text-align: center;]Dimitri I think the problem here’s there’s nothing wrong, I guess that I can coast along for now. Dark grey skies loomed oppressively above Dimitri, weighing down on his shoulders, closing him to the sky. The slight uncomfortable burn under his coat reminded him of how long he’d been keeping his steady pace. Was it too much to ask, to be able to forget the horrifying images that raced through his head. If he had a purpose, Dimitri was sure that it would help. Alas, being an Alpha seemed not to matter. There was never enough to do. He knew that if he ran himself ragged, for as long as he possibly could, his only respite would be in his sleep, where he would soon be plagued by nightmares, much the same as his memories.
Dimitri still hadn’t met his pack members, it would probably be a good idea, but he hadn’t time enough to stop his grinding pace. It was surprising that he hadn’t yet caught up with any patrol, and slightly disappointing. Dismissing the thoughts, he set his sights on the waterfall looming ahead.
Even Reyna had tired of his incessant need to check and re-check borders, his crazy search for peace and control. She had long tired of his seemingly endless journey, and had stopped to rest in a tree somewhere, a long time back.
Her absence was strange, it reminded him of how totally alone he was. Dimitri didn’t expect Reyna to understand, she was ruthless and proud, had never needed to force herself to let go of anything. If she wanted to, she would. It was as simple as that.
Dimitri supposed that it was a weakness, a flaw on his part. Letting go of things just didn’t seem to be possible for him.
The once tough pads of his paws were rubbed raw, cracked and bleeding slightly. It was only minor. A wash in the river and rest would do them well, if only he could stop the thoughts tearing his mind apart, bit by bit.
The fatigue in his muscles stiffened them until he could only a manage a walk. Dimitri forced himself to the lip of the pool underneath the waterfall. Dark churning waters roared around him. The wind was absent, for once. Before he could think twice about it, Dimitri lowered himself into the frigid, winter-cooled water. It didn’t help his wound up muscles, but it numbed his pads, which was a decided improvement. Kind of.
He lapped up the freezing water, quenching his thirst. All he could feel was the emptiness of his stomach as the water hit it. That’s what he’d do, he’d hunt for his pack, and only take what he deserved from the kill.
So far, he’d been a pretty lousy Alpha.
Bringing in a kill had to be something though, right? It was decided then; once he rested for just a little while, he’d set out again and bring back food before dark fell.
Gauging by the darkening sky, that might be a little difficult. Word Count: 485 Notes: Feel free to reply. [/style][/style]

[style=background: url(http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq95/amanda1472/iqei.png) top left no-repeat; border-radius: 10px;] [style=background-color: #927f75; opacity: .38; color: black; padding: 8px 10px; text-align: justify; border-radius: 10px; font: 12px Times New Roman; margin: 300px 20px 10px;] The large dark female moved along the Bohale borders at a brisk pace. It was getting dark, and she wondered what the pack would have for food when she got back. One of the good things about being Guard, was that the pack always saved some meat for her for when she returned. She licked her looks at the thought of it. She WAS getting hungry. Scrap moved along above her, jumping from tree limb to tree limb, never falling behind for more than a few feet. She came to a stop in her run and smiled. She had reached her stopping point. Another guard would take over from here, if they weren't already ahead of her. She smiled and looked up as the black squirrel jumped down from the tree above and landed roughly on her back."Hey Scrap, we've got a little time before we are expected, and even then they are used to us being back late. Wanna take a walk?"
By walk, she of course meant roaming around the island until she was good and ready to head back. Scrap nodded excitedly, almost hopping up and down on her back, and scurried up to her head and leaning over to peer into her eyes. "An adventure!? You know I'm always up for an adventure!"[/i][/color] Rayalen smiled, and veered off the path, making sure to leave large paw prints, and not being careful about disturbing the leaves where she walked. Rule number Five: Never be unreachable. If she could be followed, she wasn't unreachable. At least that's what she told herself. Even if she was she didn't think it would matter. They never needed her for anything really. As they walked Scrap chattered constantly, as he always did. He talked about what the birds were saying, something about there being a new Alfa for the Mirembe Pack. She figured it was always nice to know who led the other packs. So now she was headed towards the Mirembe lands, which wasn't far at all from where she had been walking. It didn't take long for the sounds of water crashing to reach her ears. She perked her ears forward, and stopped walking for a moment. Scrap stopped in his chattering, obviously wondering what Raya had heard, then he heard the falling water as well and sighed. "Let's go around it Raya. You know it will only upset you."[/i][/color] Waterfalls always upset Raya. She had bad history with the things, but she started walking again, ignoring Scrap. She was thirsty, and there wasn't another watering hole for a while. Besides, it was just a waterfall, it wasn't like it was going to jump out and bite her. She wouldn't get close enough for that. So she walked. Scrap tsked at her, and jumped off her back onto a tree trunk as she walked past, scurrying up it and rushing ahead. Probably to see what was up ahead. He was protective, much like she was, and liked to tell her what she was walking into. As she neared the waterfall, he came running down a tree and jumped onto her back once more, his tiny claws clinging to her fur. Her coat was so thick even in the late spring that she couldn't feel it much. She glanced at him as she walked, and lifted an eyebrow. He flicked his tail, and started speaking. "I went up ahead to see if anyone is out there. There is, there is a male dog, but I don't know him. He fits the description the birds gave about the new Alpha though."[/i][/color] The new Alpha was at the waterfall? Raya paused in her walking, thinking for a moment. Would he think she was tresspassing on his lands? Surely not. Surely he would be an understanding male to have made it to the alpha status. She shook her head and started walking. It didn't matter to her right now. Her mouth was dry. She hadn't had anything to drink since before earlier that morning. She quickened her pace, and Scrap again jumped off of ther back and traveled by tree. He hated sitting still. She came to one end of the pool at the bottom of the waterfall. She was a little closer to the rushing water than she would have liked, but she didn't want to get too close to the Alpha. She didn't want to surprise him. A surprised Alpha could be worse than any wild animal she'd come into contact with. She was on the far end of the pool from him, but she knew he could see her, if he was looking. She lowerd her head and lapped at the water, relief hitting her instantly. This water was always fresh, and she sighed with relief as she looked up, seeing the other dog for the first time. She sat and flicked her ears towards him. He was still in the water, that was a good thing, if he decided to attack she would have plenty of time to make a run for it. She isn't distrustful, just cautious. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone would be here. I just needed a drink."[/size][/div] ;;words:: 856 ;;player:: NeverLand ;;notes:: .... ;;credits:: Template made by Stella with a few twists by me. ;;Lyrics:: Over You - Miranda Lambert [/style][/style][/style][/style]

I’m half the man I wanted to be. Dimitri tore his mind from where Reyna might be. She had always grounded him, advised him. Reyna was the constant presence in his life, and even her short absence was unnerving him. Feeling the cold bite into his bones, seeping into every part of him, Dimitri started to move around, to get his blood moving. The blissful numbing of his paws was too good to quite give up yet.
Dimitri yawned, trying to stifle the fatigue that was creeping up on him, from the depths of his exhausted mind. Even the crystal clear, frigid water wasn’t enough to break through that haze. In another attempt, he shook himself out. The sudden movement shrouded the feeling of tiredness in a false haze of energy. That would hold him for long enough to do what he needed to. Dimitri felt the weight of the responsibility he held, it was pressing in on his shoulders. Somehow, he needed to gain the trust of his pack members, or nothing would ever work the way he wanted it to. He needed respect, and that meant actually meeting the members. That was next on his agenda.
The list was slowly building up.
Forcing those worrying thoughts into the back of his mind, Dimitri looked about him, testing the air to make sure he was still alone. Hearing anyone approaching was out of the question, with the thunder of the waterfall so close to him. He detected nothing but the fresh tang of the minerals in the waterfall. Satisfied with that, he waded around, pleased with how powerful he’d become, even in his weakened state. He’d come a long way since he’d left his family.
Even so, he couldn’t help but note the similarities between himself and his parents. He’d paired up with Skylar, without any romantic interest or social interaction, to become the Alphas of a pack, in a place of power. It was barely any different from his parents coming together to have pups. They’d held influence and power over many little lives, just like Dimitri had now.
He hadn’t been able to avoid the thoughts, so he constantly reminded himself of his flaws. Maybe he wasn’t so different from Duke after all.
A movement in his peripheral vision had him stiffening, and snapping to attention. A thickly furred female perched on the edge of his waterfall, drinking. Her posture was not menacing or haughty, so Dimitri let her do so. It was impossible to tell if she was of his pack or not, without going any closer.
Warily, Dimitri exited the water, hiding his discomfort as full gravity hit him. The wrong move would be to act aggressive. There were right times for that. Dimitri sensed that this was not one of those times. Leisurely, he stretched, grimacing at the stiffness and pain in his joints and muscles. He’d really managed to do a number on his body.
[style=font: 12px Calibri; color: #FFFFFF; text-align: justify; margin: 5px 5px 5px;]”That’s alright, it’s my pack’s territory, but we can’t exactly tell other dogs to leave. Water is water." He reasoned, approaching her slowly, but leaving enough distance to let her feel comfortable, hopefully. ”I’m Dimitri.” His voice had a clear, 'and you are?’ tone to it, without being too pushy. Dimitri was proud of himself for seeming sophisticated and in control, without being overbearing.[/style] Word Count: 438 Notes: None [/style][/style]

She watched as the Alpha noticed her presense, and moved out of the water. She kept her ears towards him, only moving them away when she heard the familiar scurrying of claws down a nearby tree trunk, and she smiled briefly as Scrap landed on her back. She expected him to say something, but for once the black squirrel remained quiet. He knew that introductions were sometimes tense, and he was prefering to stay out of it. She lowered her head breifly in greeting. "Thank you for allowing us to drink your water..." She paused, wondering momentarily how much information to divulge to the new Alpha."I was on patrol. I'm a Bohale Guard, and this water is much closer to where I was than our own supply."
This was only partially a lie. This water was much closer to where she had been than their own waterfalls. But she was also out here for other reasons as well. Sometimes she just had to get away from the pack, for reasons that were her own, and it was hard to do that on this island with out going on another packs land.
As he began to approach, she didn't allow herself to tense, although that's what she normally would have done. Another dog's approach always made her nervous, perhaps it was the guardian in her, but she liked space. "I am Rayalen."
She didn't offer him her nick name of Raya. Only her close companions called her that. Scrap and Stella mostly. Most everyone else in the pack called her by her name. Scrap flicked his tale nervously, and that in turn made her a little nervous. He was never nervous, but she supposed meeting the next Alpha of the neighboring pack could prove to be an awesome experience, or a terrifying one. "Nice to meet you."

The tall male sensed that there was something more to the story, but he didn’t worry. If she had any reason to be hostile, which he doubted, then she would have probably already done something by now. Enraged dogs didn’t tend to appear so calm and polite. After she finished, he nodded, sitting down to rest his fatigued muscles.[style=font: 12px Calibri; color: #FFFFFF; text-align: justify; margin: 5px 5px 5px;]”As I said, I own the land, but what good would it do to spark rivalry over something as necessary as water? There’s plenty to go around." Dimitri answered her, shrugging lightly. Above him, the familiar beat of feathers on the wind greeted his ears. Dimitri couldn’t help but smile and look upwards. Reyna had finally returned, he didn’t know what he’d do if she hadn’t ever come back. Her deadly talons gripped onto his shoulder as she lighted down on him. The needle sharp pain was welcome, reassuring, as strange as it sounded. ”Nice to meet you too, Rayalen. This is Reyna, my soul.” The pride just shone in his eyes, the fondness he felt toward the Gyrfalcon was evident. For her part, Reyna looked suspiciously at the intruders, on the land that was hers too. If Dimitri trusted them, then she would grant them free passage too, but it didn’t mean that she was happy about it. Sometimes Reyna wondered if Dimitri was too soft and forgiving, but then, was she just too ruthless and uncaring? ”And sometimes his only friend." She teased, trying to lighten up the tension between the two dogs. [/style] Word Count: 258 Notes: None [/style][/style]

Rayalen smiled at his words. She liked him more and more already. He certainly seemed to be the right stuff to be an alpha. He had her back so far if shit ever hit the fan. She nodded respectfully."We appreciate that. Not everyone is as generous as you." Scrap nodded excitedly, sensing Rayalen's approval. If she was comfortable with him, then he would be also. Rayalen was always an excellent judge of character.
Scrap tensed though as the falcon approached, landing on the Alpha's shoulder. Rayalen couldn't help but smile a bit. Scrap always got nervous around souls that in the natural world would consider him prey. Rayalen knew he had no reason to fear. No soul would try to eat another soul, but he had had enough encounters with regular birds of prey to be weary. Rayalen lowered her head in greeting to the soul. Souls always had a difficult job. Scrap was always complaining about how negative she was."Hello Reyna. This is Scrap."
The silly squirrel did a motion similar to a wave, before jumping off of her and scurrying up the near by tree. She grinned and gave a slight chuckle."You'll have to forgive him, he is shy of strangers." He was probably the only soul she had ever met that didn't like strangers, but she supposed even souls had the abnormalities.

It wouldn’t do to make unnecessary enemies, anyway, would it? Rayalen appeared to be respectable in her quietly spoken way. Finally, it seemed he’d managed to win over her Soul, who lightened up and returned to what Dimitri believed was his natural high-energy personality. It was comforting to know that he had at least a chance of winning over the trust of his own pack members, all in due time. That had been the only remaining hitch in his plan.
Reyna fluffed out her feathers against the incoming wind. The grey clouds had darkened, and the sun was beginning its descent. It would be a bitter night, left over from the remnants of winter. [style=font: 12px Calibri; color: #FFFFFF; text-align: justify; margin: 5px 5px 5px;]”Good evening to you, Scrap." Reyna replied, in her aloof way, though not entirely unfriendly. Dimitri stopped himself from rolling his eyes. She always had to be the perfect lady, with the air of a royal. This was only an island, they didn’t quite rule the world yet. Dimitri couldn’t suppress the amused smile that crept onto his face at Scrap’s entertaining wave before he hurried away. ”I suppose, being a soul, you have to worry twice as much.” Dimitri commented, knowing that it must be stressful. The Soul had to look after themselves and their dogs; harm coming to either of them could very well be disastrous for either one of them, or the both of them. ”When you go back, would you mind telling your Alpha that I hope all is well for her? I haven’t had a chance to meet anyone yet.” It was always important to create bonds between packs, or things could go very badly. It felt strange, in any case, to be talking to a pack mate of someone he’d never met.[/style] Word Count: 298 Notes: None [/style][/style]

Rayalen nodded. Souls always had so much to worry about. Not only their own health but also their dog's. She smiled as she glanced up at Scrap, who was busy scurrying around the tree tops doing who knows what. "That's for sure."
He spoke and at first she said nothing. It was good he wished her well. She liked him all the more. If he had come out and said he wished her harm she might would have attempted to rip his throat out right there. Not really of course, but she was extremely overprotective of her pack leader. She'd known Stella since the leader was a pup, and if anything ever did mean the leader harm Rayalen would make damn sure that harm never touched Stella. She gave a polite smile, masking her emotions quite well. She'd always been good at masking her feelings. "I'll do that. You should come introduce yourself soon though. She always prefers personal conversation verses messenger dogs."
